Research Interests

Most of the research focus on memory studies and on minor cinemas. The work on memory studies deals with theoretical and methodological issues; cultural trauma and national victimhood, and with questions regarding nationalist historiography. The research on minor cinemas has for the most part been carried out within the scope of three extensive research projects on Swedish cinemas funded by the Swedish Research Council: Swedish Experimental Cinema (2006-08); The Stockholm Film Workshop and the Cultural Politics of Minor Cinemas (2010-12) and The Cultural Practice of Immigrant Filmmaking (2013-2015).

Ongoing Research

The project The Cultural Practice of Immigrant Filmmaking, funded by the Swedish Research Council, has been completed with a monograph, written together with Lars Gustaf Andersson (Lund), * The Cultural Practice of Immigrant Filmmaking. Minor Immigrant Cinemas in Sweden 1950-1990 * (2019). Ongoing research: together with Miguel Fernandez-Labayén (Madrid) I have a project about New American Cinema and the emergence of European experimental film cultures. I am also researching the Swedish history and context of the film "Finally Got the News" (1970). A long-term project is research on time and experimental film.
