Background

Jono Van Belle is a PhD candidate at IMS at Stockholm University, Sweden, in cooperation with CIMS at Ghent University, Belgium. Her project aims to capture the meaning of Bergman and his films in the everyday lives of people contemporaneous to him. For this, oral history interviews are combined with archival research. In particular, this research traces constructions of love in the films of Ingmar Bergman as an example of the complexity of the viewing experience. Contexts of viewing and the perception of Ingmar Bergman himself are indispensable herein. Prior to her PhD studies, Jono Van Belle worked at various audiovisual companies, such as Woestijnvis and VRT (both in Belgium) and MTV Stockholm (Sweden) as reporter, editor and creative producer respectively.
