Ph D in Cinema Studies 1991, Associate professor in 1993, Docent 2001 and Full professor in Cinema Studies in 2005. Vice Dean at the Faculty of Humanities, SU since 2012. Extensive studies on Nordic national cinemas and European popular culture published by Routledge, Wallflower Press and John Libbey in Britain; in Sweden Brutus Östlings Symposion, Nordic Academic Press and in Finland Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura. Contributor to Swedish National Encyclopedia, Finnish National Filmography, Schirmer Encyclopedia, The Routledge Encyclopedia of Films. Articles on Nordic Cinema in Journal of Scandinavian Cinema, Journal of Aesthetic and Culture, SCREEN and Lähikuva (Finland). Guest lecturer and teacher in a number of universities in the US, UK and Nordic countries. Reeach fellow at the Universities of Warwick and Lancaster in the UK, as well as in the US at the Pembroke Centre, Brown University RI and Bunting Institute at Harvard. Double Fulbright Scholar, at Univeristy of Michigan, Ann Arbor(1992) and Harvard University (1999). Visiting professor at the Academy of Journalism and Communication in Hanoi Vietnam.
