Journalism and Media Studies (JMK) at Stockholm University is a highly international profile devoted to the critical examination of multiple forms of mediated communication from both Media and Communications Studies and Journalism Studies perspectives. These two research areas, while distinct, nevertheless combine within the profile to generate valuable methodological and theoretical synergies. One of the defining elements of the research conducted is a focus upon the relationship between mediated communication and politics (both formal and informal) within national, regional and global contexts. The profile is host to a number of large-scale, externally funded research projects, and the majority of publications emanating from JMK are to be found in high-quality international books and journals. The subjects addressed by our scholars also point to a desire to produce research that is both timely and relevant: subjects such as climate change, migration, minority representation, the impact of PR upon journalism, media archaeology, globalization and social protest, cultural journalism, social media and politics, digital culture, and existentialism and visual culture, to name but a few.
