Background

Olivia Eriksson obtained her PhD in Cinema Studies in spring 2021 from the Department of Media Studies at Stockholm University. Her dissertation Gallery Experience: Viewers, Screens and the Space In-Between in Contemporary Installation Art studies the intersection between film and contemporary art by focusing on the situated viewing practices of installation art in a gallery context, with a particular focus on the embodied experience of moving images in the gallery.

Research Interests

Eriksson’s research centers around the moving image within an art context. Research interests include the construction of space and questions of migration and displacement in contemporary film installation and gallery film, archival art practices and relational aesthetics.

Eriksson is currently initiating a new research project that will focus on the cinematic image as social situation, studying curatorial processes in contemporary moving image art.
