The PhD project Electronic Labyrinths: An Archaeology of Videographic Cinema (2013-2018) engages in an archaeology of the video images and imaginaries that have emerged in the last 60 years of filmmaking. The purpose is to understand the expressions of this particular media combination from the point of view of their shifting media conditions.
How do media condition their own aesthetic and conceptual expressions? How do these expressions, in turn, feed back into the imaginaries surrounding the media in question? To answer these questions, the study engages in an excavation of video images and imaginaries from their cinematic emergence in the late 1950s to their cultural remanence in the digital age.
